Pears

Conference

Conférence pears are rather long and svelte. These small to medium-sized pears have a peel that is green-yellow in colour and will ripen to a nice light yellow. Their flesh is white but it will turn yellower as the pear ripens. Conférence pears have a delicate, sweet and succulent flavour, making it the ideal choice for cooking.

Concorde

Concorde pears are succulent and yellow. They are ready for harvest in October; by January they are ready for consumption. They are eminently suited as hand-eating pears and storage pears.

Doyenné de Comice

Doyenné du Comice pears are large dumpy pears, with a short stem and a yellow-green colour with a brown-russety blush. Their flesh is white. This extraordinarily succulent pear is very sweet. All these properties make it the ideal dessert pear. The ‘Queen of Pears’.

Durondeau

Upon harvest, Durondeau pears have a coarse, dark green skin with a brown-russety blush. Once it ripens, its skin turns a warm yellow gold. Its flesh is white in colour. A Durondeau has a typical, tart taste. If it is harvested in the month of September, then this pear can only be cooked. Harvested from October onwards, it is an excellent dessert pear.

Lucas

Beurré Alexander Lucas is large hand-eating pear, that is mild in taste. Like Conference and Doyenné du Comice, it can be stored. Its flesh is gritty and grainy, rather succulent and moderately sweet. This pear variety is harvested from early October until the middle of the month.
