D&G also is the only company to exclusively market Evelina apples in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. Evelina is a mutation of Pinova and is not gritty; it has good flavour and has sufficient sugar content. It is a crisp apple with a good shelf life and can be marketed ten months a year. During the first harvest, eighty percent of the crop can be harvested without colour problems. Evelina is more appealing to the eye than Pinova and has a smooth appearance with an attractive rosy colour. Besides this, Evelina has the same strengths and weaknesses as Pinova, including: - Secondary growth;
- Sensitive to powdery mildew, but not that susceptible to apple scab and cancer;
- Low resistance to pressure but damage will be less visible as a result of the uniform colour;
- Guaranteed annual production.

This is the reason why Pinova is frequently planted in South Tirol. From a growth-technical point of view, this is the ‘Conférence’ of apple crops. Anyone can grow this variety without applying special growing techniques.

Evelina’s added value is its 90% pack out, making it a grower-friendly apple.
